Summer is Here... And Its HOT!

Well... summer has definitely arrived and its arrival was fast and furious. We had a pretty cold and rainy June... in fact, we still had the heat on in our house right up until a few days ago! Then, the Canada Day long weekend arrived, and with it came a heat warning for the lower mainland.

It is no secret that (while I love the sunshine) I'm not a huge fan of really warm weather. I turn into a bit of a wimp when the weather gets really hot. It makes me want to find the coolest place in my house and just hide... either that or get in the car and blast the air-conditioning. My aversion to hot weather probably has to do with the fact that we live in a place that is cold and rainy 85% of the year, so I'm just not that used to it.

At this point in writing my blog post, I just looked back and read what I wrote and realized that if being a bit hot and sweaty is my only real problem right now, I need to give my head a shake and stop complaining!

Moving on.

Jonathan is off work for the summer!!! Edison, Davis and I couldn't be more thrilled that we get to spend the whole summer together hanging around and having fun. Jonathan worked really hard this year with his regular job and a ton of piano accompanying for the ballet exams... he deserves the break.

We spent our first weekend of summer vacation getting our backyard and patio summer-worthy. In fact as I am typing this, Jonathan is out picking up a pool for our backyard! Jonathan spent some time this weekend power washing and getting our patio all cleaned up. It looks great and it feels so nice to sit out there in the evenings when it starts to cool off.

The boys have been spending time in little-to-no clothing, we've been playing in the backyard, sitting in the shade, and playing in water to cool off. In fact we were so desperate for something to cool off in that Jonathan filled our rubber dingy with water and we sat in it. We won't have to do that for much longer once we get our fancy new pool going. Stay tuned for pictures!

Loving the play mat outside!

Edison's new backyard toy is a water gun. We've all been having a lot of fun with it.

Afternoon nap with my boy... the heat sure can wear a person out!

Ahhhh, summer :)

Davis - 3 Months!

Little Davis is 3 months old now! Not really a newborn baby anymore, he is starting to become more aware of the world going on around him and spends a lot more time being very alert. He really is a joy... not to mention he's totally gorgeous (not that I'm biased or anything!).

Here are some facts about Davis and his little 3 month old self:

~ Davis continues to be a big strong, healthy boy... with one exception. I have battled for a long time with eczema and poor little Davis seems to have received the eczema gene from me and so he has quite a few patches of it, especially on his arms. We are moisturizing and staying on top of it and it is getting better and will hopefully go away. Other than that, he's healthy and happy.

~ At around 2 months old, Davis started sleeping through the night!!! (Something we couldn't accomplish with Edison until he was 8 months old). I am thrilled (to say the least) that I get to have many uninterrupted hours of sleep each night. After Davis had been sleeping through the night for a couple of weeks in our room, we decided it was time for him to move into his own crib in his bedroom. He has been sleeping in his crib for almost 2 weeks now and typically sleeps 8-10 hours each night. I know I am blessed!

~ On the other hand... Davis is not a great napper. At this point, I would call him a cat-napper. His naps during the day will last anywhere from 15-30 minutes usually. If we're lucky, he'll nap for an hour. It seems that the trade for having great sleep during the night, is to not sleep much during the day... which can be hard when I don't really get much of a break to relax or really focus on Edison. Ideally I would like him to stay awake for longer stretches during the day and also have longer naps. But... he's still really small and it's all a work in progress. Hopefully he'll get there eventually.

~ Although he does have his grumpy moments, most of the time he is very content to lay on his play mat, or sit and watch everything that is going on around him. He loves watching Edison... even when he hears Edison's voice he will turn his head around to try and see where Edison is.

~ Davis is a big fan of sucking on his hands. I've thought all along that he might become a thumb-sucker but so far hasn't been able to figure out how to get just his thumb into his mouth. Most of the time he just jams his whole hand in there.

~ He loves being naked. I've discovered that if nothing is working in making him happy, I stick him on the play mat, take all his clothes and diaper off... and he's happy as a little clam. Edison is hilarious... as soon as he sees that Davis has no diaper he promptly backs away... Edison was once peed on by Davis and I think he has it burned into his memory because he now stays out of the pee range.

We've been having fun over this past month and although the weather wasn't as awesome as it was in May, we've still managed to keep ourselves entertained around the house. Here are a few pictures of Davis this past month:

Starting to hold onto things

We had a visit from Auntie Sara in the beginning of June!

This week is Jonathan's last week of work and then he is off for the summer! We are very excited to get out there and have some awesome adventures this summer as a family of 4! I can't wait!

Wordless Wednesday - Self portrait fail

Today I discovered that it is not easy to take pictures of yourself and two squirming kids with your iPhone.

Brothers!

Edison has been an amazing big brother! He is always so gentle with Davis and loves to shower him with hugs and kisses. He also wants to be a part of whatever Davis is doing...

~ If Davis has a toy (which so far only consists of Sophie the Giraffe), Edison wants it too.

~ If Davis is getting a diaper changed, Edison wants to watch... he is especially fascinated with poo.

~ If Davis is in his swing, Edison will pull up his own chair and sit there and show Davis all his toys.

~ If Davis is laying on the playmat, Edison will lay down with him... he also likes to grab Davis' hand and push the dangling toys with it.

~ If Davis is in his crib, Edison will climb right in there with him...
