Mind Blown!

We've known all along that Davis is a bigger baby than Edison was... but I recently found a picture of Edison that blew me away!

On the growth charts, Edison was always in the 5th percentile. The doctor was always telling me he was small and to make sure that I fed him lots. Davis on the other had, is in the 75th percentile on the growth charts. We can tell that he is a bigger boy than Edison was. But until I saw this picture, I didn't realize how small Edison really was!

The picture of Edison standing in the dishwasher was taken in June of 2011, which means that he was 11 months old. Wearing the exact same outfit, this was Davis today, at 3 and a half months old.

It is crazy to me that when Edison was almost 1 year old, he was still the same size as some 3 months olds are. Or, that Davis is the same size as some 1 year-olds.

Mind is blown!

First Giglges

A few days ago we heard Davis laugh for the first time! At first we thought he might be crying, but we quickly realized he was in fact laughing at Jonathan. Nothing can compare to the feeling you get when you hear your baby laugh for the first time! It's pretty amazing. I will never forget the day that I heard Edison laugh for the first time.

Jonathan and I were surprised at Davis' laugh... it is a totally different sounding laugh than his big brother's was. I am continually surprised at how different they are from each other.

Here is a video from today. So far Davis thinks Jonathan is far more hilarious than me...

Davis - 3 Months!

Little Davis is 3 months old now! Not really a newborn baby anymore, he is starting to become more aware of the world going on around him and spends a lot more time being very alert. He really is a joy... not to mention he's totally gorgeous (not that I'm biased or anything!).

Here are some facts about Davis and his little 3 month old self:

~ Davis continues to be a big strong, healthy boy... with one exception. I have battled for a long time with eczema and poor little Davis seems to have received the eczema gene from me and so he has quite a few patches of it, especially on his arms. We are moisturizing and staying on top of it and it is getting better and will hopefully go away. Other than that, he's healthy and happy.

~ At around 2 months old, Davis started sleeping through the night!!! (Something we couldn't accomplish with Edison until he was 8 months old). I am thrilled (to say the least) that I get to have many uninterrupted hours of sleep each night. After Davis had been sleeping through the night for a couple of weeks in our room, we decided it was time for him to move into his own crib in his bedroom. He has been sleeping in his crib for almost 2 weeks now and typically sleeps 8-10 hours each night. I know I am blessed!

~ On the other hand... Davis is not a great napper. At this point, I would call him a cat-napper. His naps during the day will last anywhere from 15-30 minutes usually. If we're lucky, he'll nap for an hour. It seems that the trade for having great sleep during the night, is to not sleep much during the day... which can be hard when I don't really get much of a break to relax or really focus on Edison. Ideally I would like him to stay awake for longer stretches during the day and also have longer naps. But... he's still really small and it's all a work in progress. Hopefully he'll get there eventually.

~ Although he does have his grumpy moments, most of the time he is very content to lay on his play mat, or sit and watch everything that is going on around him. He loves watching Edison... even when he hears Edison's voice he will turn his head around to try and see where Edison is.

~ Davis is a big fan of sucking on his hands. I've thought all along that he might become a thumb-sucker but so far hasn't been able to figure out how to get just his thumb into his mouth. Most of the time he just jams his whole hand in there.

~ He loves being naked. I've discovered that if nothing is working in making him happy, I stick him on the play mat, take all his clothes and diaper off... and he's happy as a little clam. Edison is hilarious... as soon as he sees that Davis has no diaper he promptly backs away... Edison was once peed on by Davis and I think he has it burned into his memory because he now stays out of the pee range.

We've been having fun over this past month and although the weather wasn't as awesome as it was in May, we've still managed to keep ourselves entertained around the house. Here are a few pictures of Davis this past month:

Starting to hold onto things

We had a visit from Auntie Sara in the beginning of June!

This week is Jonathan's last week of work and then he is off for the summer! We are very excited to get out there and have some awesome adventures this summer as a family of 4! I can't wait!

Davis - 2 Months!

Davis is just over 2 months old already! Time is flying by, as I knew it would and our baby boy is growing like a weed!

He is still definitely in newborn mode... he sleeps a lot, cries, eats, and sleeps some more. However, this month we have seen him awake a lot more and he even has his moments every day where he is quiet, smiley, and makes lots of cute little baby noises.

At his 2 month doctor check-up everything checked out fine. He is becoming a healthy, chubby little boy... clocking in at almost 13 pounds.

I feel that so far, Davis has been an easier baby to handle than Edison was at this point. It's hard to tell if Davis is more easy going than Edison (who cried a lot in his first 3 months of life), or if I find it a bit easier because this is the second time around... I've done it before and learned a few things along the way. Maybe it's a little bit of both.

He sleeps most of his time in the bouncy chair, but when he is awake, he enjoys his swing, he likes to look around on the play mat... and is slowly getting strong enough to sit in the Bumbo seat.

Here are a few pictures of our little Davis from this past month.

We are enjoying our time with our little bundle as well as looking forward to the future... only another month or so and then Jolly Jumper, here we come!

Davis' First Month

Davis is one month old already! Not having had a newborn baby around in a while, I forgot how the first month goes by in a bit of a tired blur.

The first couple of weeks with Davis were really only a challenge at night... there was not much sleep to be had. However in the last couple of weeks, he has really started to turn it around. He has a few awake periods during the day where he quietly likes to look around at things, but for the most part he is still in the sleepy newborn phase. He is sleeping for longer chunks at night now, allowing me to get a bit of sleep and not feel quite so rundown during the day.

Davis is pretty cute and cuddly. He likes to be held and although he has his moments, he is a pretty content baby for most of the day. This past week he has started to make a few cooing sounds and has even had a couple of quick smiles here and there.

Davis takes the cake in the weight department compared to his older brother. He now at one month old weights the same as Edison did at 3 months old. Edison was always in the 5th percentile on the growth charts for weight, Davis is in the 75th percentile. Davis is also quite a long baby. He had a check-up when he was a week old and then again this week at one month old... in that time he grew an inch and a half in length, and gained nearly 3 pounds. Davis was also born with more hair than Edison and his hair is quite a bit darker than his big brother's. He is definitely a different baby than Edison was, in both size and looks.

Davis is a very strong boy. At a two week check-up the doctor told us that he had the neck strength of a 2 month-old baby. He can already sit for quite a while and hold his own head up... it's pretty impressive.

Love those chubby little cheeks!

The month of April felt busy. We had a visit from Aunty Sara and Uncle Ryan (stay tuned for a blog post on that one). Also, Jonathan has been working a lot, keeping very busy with his regular work schedule on top of playing piano for a number of different ballet schools. We are looking forward to things calming down a little in May, and are especially looking forward to Jonathan having the whole summer off from work! Fun times are sure to be had.

Bath Time

There is something about the first bath at home that is special to me. Davis' first bath at home was especially fun because Edison was so excited to watch his baby brother in the water. Edison sat on the counter beside the sink and excitedly observed the whole thing.

Edison always screamed in the sink bath... he did not enjoy it! Click here if you'd like to take a look back at the long journey Edison took to finally enjoying the bath.  Davis doesn't mind the water and only seems to cry when we take him out and he's cold for a second. Other than that, he seems quite relaxed in the bathtub.

2 thumbs up!

Ahhh... dry and warm
