Throwback Thursday - Odds & Ends from Summer 2014

We had a couple of great trips this past summer and did some really fun things. We also just did our usual summer routine - trampoline/pool in the backyard, hang out, and have fun in the warm sun.

So, here are a few pictures of our comings and goings this past summer...

We spent a lot of time in the pool. Jonathan and Edison also tubed the river many times.

The boys... taking a break from riding their bikes to watch a dump truck.

Walking to Bobby Sox!

The boys (big one included) love to drive the truck around the neighbourhood.

Love all the fresh produce in the summer time! Yay for blackberry bushes and farmers markets.

No summer would be complete without a trip to the PNE

We did a LOT of bike riding!

Backyard Amusement Park

Whew! July was a busy month for us... hence the little break from the blog. Now, I've got some catching up to do... and about a million pictures to sort through.

As I mentioned in a previous post, we bought a pool from craigslist for our backyard. It has been a hot summer and we wanted to have something to cool off in. Jonathan's idea of a backyard pool was a little different from what I had in mind. I think Jonathan's motto for backyard pools is: go big, or go home. So we went big (much to my dismay that he is going to kill half of the grass in my yard).

We thought our backyard was pretty level... until we tried setting up a humongous pool in it. We quickly discovered that there is a slight slope to the yard.... cue the truck-load of sand. Edison had fun with it... it was like a huge sandbox! Once Jonathan had it levelled, we filled or monster pool and waited for it to heat up a bit.

Ta Da!

Edison took a bit of convincing in the first few days because it was still a bit chilly

AND THEN... as if our backyard wasn't consumed with enough toys, our neighbour was trying to get rid of his trampoline and so over the fence it went and found itself a new home in our yard as well. As much as the trampoline with the net is not the most attractive thing to look at, Edison loves it! It is nice that he can just zip himself in there, bounce all his energy out, and I don't have to worry about him flying off and breaking anything.

The summer yard... not boring, thats for sure!

Edison was rocking some awesome static-filled hair from all his crazy jumping.

Nothing says summer like putting the sprinkler under the trampoline!

Davis loves to sit on the side of the trampoline and feel the bounces while his big brother jumps.

So if we're home... now you know where to find us!

Tofino Trip 2012 - Ucuelet

Last year, Jonathan and I stayed in a cabin in Ucuelet at a place called Surfs Inn. I have a couple blog posts from our visit there last April called "A Weekend Getaway" Part 1 and Part 2... if you feel like taking a little journey down our memory lane.

When going back this year we decided that we liked the Surf's Inn a lot and wanted to stay there again. The people who own Surfs Inn are really friendly and the cabins are awesome. The town of Ucuelet is really cute and fun to explore around in... it's a very small town. The only downside to staying there is that its about a half our drive to get to Tofino and the surf spots... but we thought it would be worth it.

We stayed in the Elephant Cottage this time around, we loved it!

We had our own fireplace. One day, as we were sitting and enjoying the fire, a bear walked right past us through the bushes in behind the fireplace. Needless to say, we stood up and went inside!

We took many walks around Ucuelet... to sightsee, to get ice cream, to go to the playground, to go to the aquarium. The nice thing about a small town is that you can pretty much walk where ever you want to go. Right across the street from Surfs Inn is the Ucuelet marina. We took Edison on many walks down there because he loved looking at the boats, and all the little fishies he could see in the water.

Here fishy fishy..
