Davis' First Month

Davis is one month old already! Not having had a newborn baby around in a while, I forgot how the first month goes by in a bit of a tired blur.

The first couple of weeks with Davis were really only a challenge at night... there was not much sleep to be had. However in the last couple of weeks, he has really started to turn it around. He has a few awake periods during the day where he quietly likes to look around at things, but for the most part he is still in the sleepy newborn phase. He is sleeping for longer chunks at night now, allowing me to get a bit of sleep and not feel quite so rundown during the day.

Davis is pretty cute and cuddly. He likes to be held and although he has his moments, he is a pretty content baby for most of the day. This past week he has started to make a few cooing sounds and has even had a couple of quick smiles here and there.

Davis takes the cake in the weight department compared to his older brother. He now at one month old weights the same as Edison did at 3 months old. Edison was always in the 5th percentile on the growth charts for weight, Davis is in the 75th percentile. Davis is also quite a long baby. He had a check-up when he was a week old and then again this week at one month old... in that time he grew an inch and a half in length, and gained nearly 3 pounds. Davis was also born with more hair than Edison and his hair is quite a bit darker than his big brother's. He is definitely a different baby than Edison was, in both size and looks.

Davis is a very strong boy. At a two week check-up the doctor told us that he had the neck strength of a 2 month-old baby. He can already sit for quite a while and hold his own head up... it's pretty impressive.

The month of April felt busy. We had a visit from Aunty Sara and Uncle Ryan (stay tuned for a blog post on that one). Also, Jonathan has been working a lot, keeping very busy with his regular work schedule on top of playing piano for a number of different ballet schools. We are looking forward to things calming down a little in May, and are especially looking forward to Jonathan having the whole summer off from work! Fun times are sure to be had.

Like Father, Like Son

Edison has been watching Jonathan skateboard since he was born, so it's no surprise that Edison has an interest in skateboarding.... to go along with his airplane obsession.

Edison received an Edison-sized skateboard for Christmas and has been practicing standing on it around the house. The weather is finally perking up, so Jonathan and Edison had a little skateboard session last week at the skatepark.

Davis was also there... watching the action.

Helmet strapped on and ready to go!

He also had fun pushing his skateboard (by itself) down the ramps

Love those sleepy smiles!

My handsome boys!

Skateboarded out and ready to head home...

I'm sure there will be many more adventures to the skatepark this summer... they don't call me the skateboarding widow for nothing.

Bath Time

There is something about the first bath at home that is special to me. Davis' first bath at home was especially fun because Edison was so excited to watch his baby brother in the water. Edison sat on the counter beside the sink and excitedly observed the whole thing.

Edison always screamed in the sink bath... he did not enjoy it! Click here if you'd like to take a look back at the long journey Edison took to finally enjoying the bath.  Davis doesn't mind the water and only seems to cry when we take him out and he's cold for a second. Other than that, he seems quite relaxed in the bathtub.

2 thumbs up!

Ahhh... dry and warm

The First Week

It's an amazing feeling to grow a baby inside for nine months, get everything around the house ready for him, and then finally get to bring him home and start our life as a family of four! It is such an exciting time.

I had Davis at 6:45 in the morning... bright and early after one long night of labour. We had to stay in the hospital for one full day, so by lunchtime the next day, they were ready to spring us free.

My mom and Edison were at the house, eagerly awaiting our arrival home. Edison was so excited to have his baby stay at home... each time he visited in the hospital, he didn't want to leave Davis behind.

Davis spent the first week of his life sleeping like a rock during the day... and then keeping me up all night. After Edison, I forgot how completely exhausting having a newborn baby is. Sleep is a luxury that I savour every moment of whenever I can get it!

Jonathan has been awesome and has taken over a lot of the helping with Edison while I have a newborn attached to me most of the time. Edison has been such a great big brother, showering Davis with lots of love and helping out whenever possible. Edison has never once seemed jealous and really made bringing Davis home so easy.

Introducing Davis!!

After a very long blogging break... I'm back! Since my last post, almost a year ago, a lot has changed in our little family!

Davis Christopher was born on March 23rd, 2013 at 6:45am. He weighed in at 8 pounds, 8 ounces..  a little bit heavier and longer than his big brother Edison was.

Davis has now been with us for two and a half weeks and although sleep-deprived, we are loving every second with him. Edison is a very proud and loving big brother and has made the transition very smoothly.

We have a number of family members who live out of town and, considering how fast babies change and grow, I will do my best to keep the blog updated with lots of pictures and stories of these two amazing little boys.

A very new Mr. Davis

Wrinkly hands and toes!

Edison couldn't stop looking at him, touching his head, and giving him kisses.

I couldn't get over how small he looked in the carseat.

Last family photo before leaving the hospital and bring our bundle home.

Well, thats it for now. More to come soon on how we've been settling in at home these past couple of weeks as a family of four!
