Beach Babe

Jonathan and I decided to take advantage of the beautiful, warm weather today and hit the beach with Edison. We headed down to White Rock and basked in the much needed sun for a couple of hours before Jonathan headed off to work.

This was Edison's first encounter with sand and the ocean and (although a little grumpy from teething) he had tons of fun. He wasn't quite sure what to make of it at first.... he just took it all in. Once he got his hands into the sand, he really enjoyed squishing it around with his fingers. He also ate a few mouthfuls... and I learned that it's pretty much impossible to get sand out of a baby's mouth. After a while, he was ready to explore and spent a lot of time crawling around, playing with the sand and also some shells that he found. We had to really watch him because he likes to put everything in his mouth.... including the sea shells. We are trying to teach him "not in your mouth" (only on the things he really shouldn't be putting in his mouth), but so far he's not really catching on.

Here is Mr. Edison chewing on a straw, while waiting in the car to get going. If you enlarge the photo on the right, you can see his top teeth starting to show!

We stopped at the railroad tracks on our way down to the beach to take a few pictures:

Finally we made it down to the beach to play. Edison is able to balance on his own for quite a while now. When Jonathan first put him down, he stood there for quite a while....we think that he didn't really want to sit down on this weird substance called sand.

Hmmm.... this sand doesn't taste very good

Ahhh, the feel of sand between the fingers

Jonathan, building his super awesome sand castle

Not so sure about the beach anymore...

Look out! Edison is on the move...

What's this wet stuff?

Warm wading pools... the perfect place to rinse off

We had such a fun day, we are excited for more nice weather and future trips to the beach.... that's for sure!

  2. Brings back so many good memories of when Edison's daddy was little. That was my favorite place to hang out with my kids! I guess now that my grandson is doing it, can we call this tradition?

  3. Great beach PICS. But you put the thought in my head of sand in the mouth. Now I imagine grit every time I bite something.
